Most sites don’t need planning permission for solar panels as it can be installed under Permitted Development rights.

Most roof types are suitable for solar panels. However solar panels aren’t suitable if the roof is in a bad condition, and isn’t suitable for thatched roofs, timber shingles, asbestos sheets, or roofs with limited space.

As a rule of thumb, you would need approx. 6m2 per 1 kW of PV. As an example, if you had a 1000m2 area of roof this would equate to a system of 166kWp (1000/6 = 166)

This will depend on the size of the site. Your BDM will be able to give you an estimation once the site survey is completed.
